Lurking is an in-development gay cinematic visual novel that is solely intended for a mature audience as it depicts instances of violence, nudity and sexual encounters between gay adult men.
THE STORY
You enter into the world of Jackson Morin, a career driven architect who has put romance and finding love on the back-burner in favour of pursuing his career, building his portfolio and making a name for himself.
Like most things however, that changes as he soon realizes that his self-imposed isolation with the exception of the occasional hook-up isn't fulfilling him anymore and only adding to his state of loneliness.
If embarking on the journey in pursuit of finding love wasn't precarious enough, there's also a murderer Lurking in the shadows of your once peaceful town.
How far are you willing to go to uncover the identity of the murderer in order to protect and save the ones you love?
HOW IT ALL CAME ABOUT
In 2020 I discovered the world of Visual Novels, with my first being: “Coming out on Top”. I’ve been hooked on VN’s ever since and there’s so many amazing creators who create and deliver spectacular stories. I found myself drawn more towards the Cinematic styled VN's though, with the exception of some incredible Sprite based VN's. There is definitely something for everyone which inspired me to create Lurking .

OMG he is leaving so many fingerprints in Enzo's apartment that is kinda giving me physical pain, what is he doing??? Anyone investing is gonna think he is the murderer.
Finished the update, kinda short but love the tension at the end. Definitely hooked, only this thing of us having to touch everything of something that is probably the scene of a crime was really weird.
Yep, my thoughts exactly! But he kinda made his choice (not one we could make) to withhold evidence back with Liv and Hyuk at his apartment. However, he could have just used gloves—this way, his fingerprints would only have been on the key. At least, his fingerprints were there in part already.

How can someone confident enough to pose for artistic nude photos, photos displayed in large format on their walls no less, be embarrassed to be seen in their underwear? J's behavior in front of L&H does not match his personality

Just finished my first playthrough! Gotta say this was great as a first instalment - especially with it being your first visual novel too!
Clever to open with a plot hook :) It reminded me of the Scream franchise, with how they open the film with what they want you to believe is the main character, only to kill them off in the opening act! Really gets your thoughts in gear, and sets the tone that nobody is safe.
You introduced us to some fun characters that seem to already have a decent relationship with one another. I'd say take your time a little and let us digest the information given. We don't know an awful lot about Jackson, so litter in little bits of exposition whenever you can.
Loved the artwork on the walls in Jackson's home. They are really well done and look super professional, so big props on that. I also really appreciate the attention to detail in your moving shots. The phone call with Olivia in the car especially, I really liked how you moved the background onwards to show that she was driving and not just parked up.
Overall a really great start. Interesting plot hooks and it's definitely got me wanting to see more. The only thing I'd consider for your next update is to be a little more free and fun with your camera shots. Think of it as filming a TV show, or movie. Give us angles, dynamic wide shots, close-ups etc etc. With it being your first time stuff like that will come, especially as you upgrade hardware and get more comfortable with the programs.
Great job! Really well done. Keep it up because I can't wait to see what happens after that great cliff hanger ;)

The character models and posing them are done in DazStudio, The set pieces are created using Blender. The renders are all done in Blender as well.
It's a bit of extra work importing and exporting constantly but I just have so much more freedom in Blender and its also easier for me to fix any model issues if I do most of the work in Blender ;)

The game looks nice btw and i'm tempted to play. But if the only available options are dudes it's probably not for me. Then again to each their own and you did trigger my interrest despite advertising the game as geared toward gay audience.

i can't download the file because a virus is detected and it automatically prevents the download.
Pilgrim2003 also had a issue similar to this. Not sure how they got around it.
I've ran scans on my side on the files and it comes back clean. I am sorry that you experienced this issue but I do hope that you eventually get to experience the demo.

It’s weird for me because I can’t choose a favourite between the three of them. My favourite was Enzo, he was the last character I created so I had a very difficult time when I was doing the opening scene.

It is not something I've thought about to be honest... there are still a few characters I plan on introducing over the next few updates. Who knows... you might just get one. I'd need to find references to create the perfect character that would do it justice though. I believe that all types of men are beautiful and should be celebrated! Giving everyone something they can enjoy :D <3 I know everyone has their preference though so lets see where this journey takes us.

I just completed playing the demo and wow, consider me blown away with the content so far! I understand that this is your first VN, but is this your first work of fiction as well? The quality of the narrative sounds very pro. And the CGs are excellent. It’s pretty rare to find good works having both of my favourite genres in literature: murder mysteries and queer romance. There is great potential in the story and I am hopeful you’ll take it in the direction that your readers and also you as a creator deserve.
If I might make a suggestion (apologies if it’s too personal and opinionated): I don’t know the scale of violence you’ve planned for Lurking, but I think it’d be great if you could limit or censor the visuals if it gets too bloody from this point onward (i.e., take the gory details out of the CGs and leave it to the reader’s imagination). There are a couple of pretty violent VNs I’ve avoided just for this particular reason despite the rave reviews. There may be many people like me who don’t minding reading about violent crime in fiction in mere words, but find it visually illustrated in pictures (or CGs) very off-putting.
Having played the likes of Straight!?, New Hope, Summer Vacation, Freshmen: Physical Education, and other great VNs, I look forward to seeing what you’ve got in store for us!

From this point onwards, with the introduction of a few more characters... there is bound to be more deaths but I completely get what you're saying. I could include an option for the viewer to skip the visual representation of the murders but still have it play out for you to read about. Thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely keep it in mind with the next update.
